>>41342328 >Smiling brightly in the dark ruined corridor, the pirate captain let out a gasp of laughter at the outraged tone of the elf's voice. His reaction as it had been on point and worthy of an actor's performance on the grand stage. As she herself stopped to laugh at the elf and try in vain the catch her breath, Jessica couldn't help but be so amused by the honest bluntness of Cassie.
Pffffaahahahahahahahahahahaha~
>Try as she might she couldn't stop laughing at him and the way his voice had sounded in the dark. So upset, so insulted, confused and, above all else perhaps, so offended at the notion of selling what he had arguably ruined his life to secure.
I'm sorry, so sorry but it the way you answered the joke was just so perfect.
>Insinuating he should sell the tome that could change the world, that he threw away his whole life as he knew it, just for a sum of coins that couldn't buy any of that back... was a joke?!
>His initial anger, reddening his cheeks and the tips of his ears, gave way to embarrassment at being tricked by a woman he thought was a friend. The elf's shoulders slumped, and he looked away, lost in his own anxieties.
>>41343396 >With the pirate captain's joyful elation to ease their way through the darkened corridors the pair of adventurers continued on for the better part of an hour, sometimes having to crawl or squeeze their way through particularly tight passages or partly collapsed sections of the tunnel but always going down into the bowels of the earth. But at long last, after what felt like an eternity of sullen and reclusive darkness came the faint outline of light. Emerging out of the corridor the pair of adventurers found themselves in in a vast cavern of ancient makings.
>Dwarfed by the sheer size and scope of the cavern that was illuminated by faintly glowing veins of blue and red crystal, Jessica was stricken speechless and could only marvel at the remarkable place they had both come upon. Thick pillars of stone inscribed with ancient runes held up a high roof of stone that arched hundreds of meters above the their heads.
You said you liked ancient relics but have you ever read of anything like this?
>Jessica asked with something of a short breath filled to the brink with awe and wonder.
>>41344148 >>41344150 >Through his countless hours spent studying in the monastery, Cassie does in fact possess the knowledge to correctly identify and interpret the runes carved on the walls and ceiling of the ruin. The arrangement and method of engravement shows the runes to have most likely been engraved at around the mid to late Age of Kings by a human population. However a more detailed analysis of such ancient runes would require a far more timely analysis.
>However, the runes that appear on the floor are of a much later making being consistent with late Age of Gods making and shows clear markings of being warning runes written to ward off and alert individuals of forthcoming danger.

He hesitated behind Jessica and took in the sights. What stood out the most was the familiarity of the runes on the wall.
I-I have.
>He took a few steps towards a section and ran his hand along the old stone. The dust brought up by the motion harmlessly drifted away on the wind.
These are from... thousands of years ago. I think you call it the Age of Kings. That means... that means that this place is older than the monastery. Probably older than any city you've ever been to. We're standing on stone that was carved without the aid of magic, or probably even crystal...
>He turned his attention to the floor, stepping out into the open. Dirty boots clacked against the stone as he walked with purpose. His voice was so confident, it was hard to believe it belonged to the same elf that pouted after being tricked.
... our records on human language from that era are sparse. I would need more resources to translate those, but the ones on the ground...
>He knelt to examine a particular set.
I studied these languages when I was trying to find something like the spellbook's script. The syntax is close to what would be use during the Judicator's summoning.
>He fell silent for a minute. Thin fingers traced the lines on the ground, and his brow furrowed.
They're warnings about what's ahead. If it was dangerous in the age of Chosen, it's disastrous now.
>He looked up, further into the cavern. What did he have to lose?
