>>41107298 >>41107374 >The heavily injured wolf attempted to shake its mind clear, but with the blood dripping from the wound it took, the wolf could tell its life was potentially in danger.
>Backing away, it kept its eyes on Saber whilst carefully assessing its next move, growling as best it could as it inched closer to its comrade.
>The other wolf, noticing the other wolf and the damage it had taken, became much more aggressive. The fur on its back stood on end, almost as though it were a single massive spike, and its tail spread out to become a mass of small, soft thorns, fangs bared and ready to attack.
>Its prey could wait, because right now its brother needed to be defended. To prevent Saber from assaulting its friend, the wolf took the offensive and launched itself towards her, fangs and claws looking to rip and tear.

>>41107394 >And there it was, the reason why the name 'Kingsmeet Wolves' was accurate. They were fast, they were deadly, they worked together, but most importantly they protected their own. The wolf bit into her arm and its claw tore through the cloth covering her abdomen, but thankfully the wounds were nothing more than scratches and bites.
>With the wolf now next to her and the other not much of a problem, Saber moved to defend herself, thrusting both daggers towards its underbelly.

>>41107407 >It felt strong, powerful and deadly. It could tear this one to pieces, bring the prize home for the pack to feast upon! The shining teeth betrayed themselves in the light, and it masterfully dodged the first strike by hopping backwards, feeling as though it would find it even easier to attack after landing- >>41107410 >Only to find a sharp pain run across its underbelly, close to its leg. The second dagger made it through, cutting up muscle and causing it to yelp when it landed.

>>41107422 >>41107394 >Again, Jerome ommited to use an actual weapon against these beasts, they weren't worthy of the polish off their blades. No, if these lowly creatures were going to act like mindless animals then he would treat them as such and kick the ever loving Companion out of them.
>As such, Jerome once again approached the creature and simply swung his heavily armored boot at its stomach again to see if the damn thing would relent or not after a few of its ribs had been cracked open.

>The first wolf continued to hold back, watching the other protect it yet take a nasty wound. Yet the other wolf continued to struggle and fight despite having taken such a blow, and when the kick came towards it the wolf slammed its body against his other, toppling the knight off-balance and back onto the floor.
>The one who had hurt them was still a threat, so it fearlessly charged again, attempting to bite and pin the girl.
>Knowing that its consciousness was slowly fading, and that it likely wouldn't make it out of this, the weaker wolf rushed forward to attempt to help its friend, inspired by its actions to claw away at Saber's legs.

>>41107505 >The claws were easy to dodge, the wolf was weakened and slow because of the wound she had dealt earlier, but the other wolf's bite was a threat. Hoping to dissuade it from attacking, Saber held a single dagger similarly to how Jerome had done before, preparing to counter the bite with a strike of her own.

>>41107518 >It had leapt towards her thinking it could bite down on her relatively unprotected leg, pin her and let its brother tear her apart. It hadn't expected such an assault. The dagger slashed across its face, and before it knew it, two more stabs dug into its body and it landed, collapsing to the floor, not knowing its fate.

>>41107526 >Seeing the offending wolf go down for the count, Jerome's mind cleared of the haze of hatred that had descended over him and reminded himself of his own place in the scheme of things. Even if these wolves were mere beasts, there were many accounts of villagers and hunting parties being destroyed by their like in larger numbers. Smart, fearsome, and brutal, these monsters could kill with ease and he would have been the fool for not fighting them properly.
Sorry, I'll make this quick.
>Unsheathing his right hand dagger, Jerome lunged forward to attack the bleeding wolf, hoping to put a quick end to its struggle.

>Thus, at this point, the only thing left was to act out of spite. Spite for the one who had tried to kick it like it was some kind of pest. If he was going to go down like a dog, he was going to take this arm with him.
>Rearing its head back to avoid the swift dagger strike, it then lunged at the arm performing it with its teeth, looking to bite down hard.

>These wolves really were trouble, right til the end. Saber was thankful for the result, the dead bodies of the two here might keep the others at bay, the smell of death was rarely an attractive prospect for would-be predators.
>Unless the predators were of the bigger sort. That would suck. Come to think of it, being this close to Astrolia probably made that a more likely outcome than not, and she really didn't want to come face to face with anything that had a large pair of wings.
>For now, though, there was one wolf left to deal with. It'd die eventually, but better to put it out of its misery with a quick death, just as Jerome had offered before it tried to bite him for it. Linking one of her daggers to a chain, she spun it briefly before sending it in an arc over to the wolf, hoping to finish it.

. . .
>Slowing turning his eyes down to the crystal dagger's hilt that sat on the ground to the crystal dust on his armor, Jerome blinked a few times, breathed in deeply and exclaimed with a great deal of indignation.

>>41108851 >>41108935 >It was no good, its jaws couldn't penetrate that thick hide anymore. Just as it was about to give up, it saw a sparkling object flying towards it, giving it a certain amount of panic. Yet, it missed the wolf completely, crashing against the thick hide of the other beast and shattering into a shower of tiny sparkles. One such sparkle cut ever so gently across the beasts' face, drawing only the smallest amount of blood, but that wound made the wolf stir-crazy.
>This was going to be the last action it ever too in its life, so it felt compelled to leave a mark, to make some attempt at vengeance for both itself and its brother. With one last swing, it attempted to give a nasty claw mark to Jerome's face.

>>41108935 >>41109883 >SMASH! >She could only watch helplessly as her dagger smashed against Jerome's armour. Truth be told she was far better at aiming that thing when dealing with a stationary target, let alone two bodies clashing in melee, but that still didn't excuse the fact that she'd not only failed miserably at a needlessly 'flashy' move, she'd also lost one of her daggers in the process, and nearly severely injured the very man she was attempting to protect.
>It was this kind of incompetence that she couldn't stand from other people, particularly from those in her guild, so Saber's natural response would have been to dismiss it and try to cover it up. Instead, given how completely obvious her failure was, that brash personality retreated into itself and she simply twirled her fingers around each other, looking particularly ashamed after his indignant words.
That... wasn't supposed to happen... sorry...
>Of course, that still left the wolf, but given the utter weakness of its most recent attack, it didn't seem like it would be a problem for much longer.
