Two weeks after the Fire Festival, Kingsmeet burns. The flames raging across the city can be seen for miles around the countryside as entire districts of the city are burnt to ashes. As the citizens run from the flames, they find themselves hunted down by the beasts that stalk the streets. As the flames had risen and the whole city seemed to combust, deformed beings as dark as night seemed to crawl their way out of the cracks between the walls. Their malformed flesh a horrifying mockery of living beings, they ran, crawled, and flew after anything they could catch, their horrid heads ripping into flesh, blood, and bone.
All across the city mages, engineers, soldiers, and knights all took up arms to defend their homes from a sudden onslaught they hadn't expected and struggled to contain the horrid beasts stemming from nowhere. As mages put their spells to use against the flames consuming the streets, they find themselves swarmed by the beasts drawn by magic and as the firefighting efforts merged with the front lines of battle, the reclamation efforts took on a very firm line with large groups of citizens banding together to push back the unknown threat to their homes.
Meanwhile underneath the city itself, the ever reclusive Wraiths of Kingsmeet had gathered together to complete a ritual that would bring their god into being and life back into their bodies. There, a black specter arose in a vague humanoid form and it was from it and its silent reverberating screams that Kingsmeet began to fall.
