That man I swear he's almost more trouble then he's worth... almost.
>With the doctor retrieved and both leaving them to do their work, the noble stands outside the build Patrick was now cooped up in with Rakohl at her side. Well she couldn't very well stay there all day, she had plenty of work ahead of her while the fire mage was recovering. The encounter with the beastkin drove the point home that meeting them in a head on confrontation would be suicide... She'll need to think of another plan and to make it effective, she needed to know what this village had at it's disposal...
>But first things first...
So Sir Rakohl, I apologize if this is to forward... but what were you doing in the forest all by yourself?
>It was clear that he wasn't part of the group giving this village trouble, but the reason to why he was here in the first place remained a mystery
to her.

I was travelling. I have been for a while, I started in Astrolia and have been roaming since I was sixteen.
>Patrick Frye was being seen to, and now he found himself with the small noble. Rakohl frowned again. He wasn't really sure what he should be doing. The bestial blood within him ached to move onwards, but he'd made a promise to help. Even if he wasn't sure what that promise would have him do.
There was no particular reason that I chose that forest, I'd merely been camping there for the past week or two.
>He neglected to mention that he'd managed to get lost in it. It was more economical to set up his tent and stay put for a little while than wander blindly.
...You don't have to refer to me as a 'sir.' My name will do just fine, Miss Neige.
>>41330792 >Well if she didn't need to use formalities around him then...
Well it's only fair that you shouldn't have to use formalities around me either. Melody will do just fine, prefer it actually.
>So he was just travelling around, and a year earlier then she did. Well he certainly had the power to do so on his own, something she envied a bit.
Well it was good fortune that you happened to be in the area when you were...
>Now she was weighing options in her head. While his abilities were great, she really shouldn't drag him into a situation where he was forced to help this whole village when she and Patrick promised to. But if she was going to beat those beastkin she'd need all the help she could get.
At least now I can plan a proper course of action to deal with the beastkin harassing this village.
>Well, generally noble types had wanted to be referred to by a title. The few that he had encountered in his travels tended to prefer it, at least. There was no issue in acquiescing, his father told him that if you had a title, you had generally done something to achieve it, so you would be proud of it.
>And they were mostly from Termina too. How strong must a nation be if they had so many people with titles? It made him excited just thinking about it.
>But apparently this one did not seem to be that bothered. Perhaps she had not earned one yet. That would explain why she needed to train.
>She'd also been asked to help deal with the Elan threat...
You may count on me to assist as you like, Melody. I can offer little else but my body, but what I can help you with, I shall.
>Rakohl inclines his head to the noblesse once again.
>>41333071 >"I can offer little else but my body." >And that brought her thoughts screaming back to the scene where he showed off much more of his body then she was comfortable with at the moment. But now that she wasn't in a live and death situation... >Her face turns red and she attempts to mask her reaction to her own thoughts from the man next to her. <"DON'T SAY IT LIKE THAT YOU IDIOT!!!"
T-that's good. Having you around will be a huge h-help.
>Taking a moment to throw the whole scene into the back of her mind for now, she notes that learning exactly how Rakohl was able to transform and it's possible limitations would be important. But she could do that a bit later...
Now, we're going to have to do some leg work. Learn exactly what we have at our disposal should taking the fight to them be the only option.
>Diplomacy should always be your first option when dealing with another person, though she had a feeling that these Beastkin won't be willing to cooperate. Her own sister's retelling of her encounters with them said as much. Then again, Victoria was not one for diplomacy...
>>41334068 >She seemed nervous. He was a little nervous too. He'd never fought an entire clan before, it'd be suicide to try no matter how powerful his patron beast was.
>Of course, she seemed to consider fighting the last option. Which was good for the humans of the village, but he felt somewhat useless. He was confident in his ability to fight and his fairly limited experience with diplomacy had been asking the multitudes of bandits, Elan and zealous Elan haters to stand down before having to knock them out.
>Rakohl nods, prepared for the walking to follow.
As you wish. I'm not sure who would know about that best, however. This is my first time visiting the village.
>Melissa and...her dad, possibly? He was still unsure. Nonetheless, Melissa had seemed like they were in a particularly bad spot when she'd asked for his assistance. If she was willing to ask the help of someone who she had reason to mistrust, it couldn't mean that they were in a good state to fight. Perhaps she had been banking on him and Mr Frye?
>Of course, this was all assumption. It was possible that they were much better off than he gave credit for. He was no strategist, after all. So, he defers to Melody's judgement. She seemed to know what she was doing, maybe it was because she was going to have one of those titles things.
>>41338054 >Melody had the same thoughts as Rakohl. It was pretty clear that this humble village and it's people had little means to defend themselves from a threat like those beastkin and it may very well be up to the three of them alone to resolve this. But she had to make sure if that was true or not. >But what was she to do afterwards?
I wonder if this place has a library...?
>She could see if there was any books she could use here. Hopefully. >And another matter that she felt should be looked into...
So Rakohl... how does your... uh transformation work? What kind of limitations does it have?
>If she wanted to have him in her corner she needed to know what he was capable of.
>His hand practically a blur in it's attempts to cover her mouth. The young Beastkin leans in closely, a pleading look on his face
Please keep that quiet. The people here...Are not so accommodating as perhaps you are.
>He nods and removes his hand from her mouth, looking slightly nervous and rattled.
I will talk with you on that...But not here.
>Anywhere that was open would be a disaster waiting to happen, if what Melissa had said was true.
>Of course...now he felt slightly awkward for having manhandled her so. His mother had said you should treat ladies delicately...But some ladies didn't like being treated delicately, and it was very confusing trying to figure out who did and who didn't.
>Melody was taking by surprise at the sudden hand over her mouth and her eyes glance over to the man next to her. Though he explains himself quickly and she understands why this was happening now.
>Though to say she was accommodating of it was a... stretch perhaps? Neutral was probably the better term. She wasn't among the nobility at the capital that saw beastkin as sub-humans to be either loathed or outright eradicated nor had she had the dreadful experiences with them as this village had. >If anything her sister's opinion had the most impact, much like on most in her life. "Warriors worthy of both great respect and greater cation." So far that fit her experience with them as short as it was. The first encounter made clear they were not to be missed with at all and her time with Rakohl was rather pleasant as he was far well mannered and well spoken then those dreadful brutes from before. She was on the fence about them, but she was leaning towards favour.
Right, later then. Uh... sorry about that?
>Really she should have considered that. Hopefully that was the only laps in judgement she was going to have today... This post was edited by its author on 13 May 2016 10:35:05 AM.
>Rakohl breathes a sigh of relief. That had been too close. His eyes dart furtively around, to check to see if anybody had been watching them too closely or listening in, but he couldn't see anything...
>Of course, that could just be him being unobservant, but for now he'd choose to trust in his instincts.
It's fine.
>For now.
Let's just...keep on for now.
>He really hoped that this wouldn't come back to haunt him.
>>41341665 >With a nod the noble says no more about it. Not much else to do but go see Melissa now and learn exactly what resources she had to work with. >Hopefully it'll be something...
And that's why I've come to you. If we're going stand a chance against them we'll need to pool every resource we have. I was hoping that you'd be able to tell me... exactly what that is?
>Being a noble, and rather sheltered one outside of her childhood, Melody didn't really know what sort of defences a village like this would really have... or lack.
