>>41128994 >Having grabbed the bounty and signed herself off on the ledger before anyone could take offense to it, Janet had ran off down to the train station and had boarded the first train heading north-east that was available. Sitting by the side of a window, Janet pet the pure white kitten that was always by her side and thought happily about the new place she would be going to and the new things she might see and experience.
>The entire affair filled the girl with a sense of delight she couldn't quite describe as anything but taking a breath of fresh air. Staying cooped up in one place for too long, no matter who with or why always bogged her down and made her feel antsy but Janet thrived on change and could never seem to get enough of it. If the Old Man had hung up that poster for her sake then good on him for seeing that this little powder keg wouldn't blow up in his city. Although in all probability it had just been a mistake that had seen this bounty posted without restrictions as to who could take it on.
>And though she could already hear the condescending voices of the older members ringing in her ears over her careless behavior and the worry she incited them, how could she care when she was already having so much fun? The thrill of combat, the smell of magic in the air, a few dozen brigands beaten up for the sake of the people and carted off to jail, the free meals that came as a thanks from the communities she'd helped. That stuff was what Janet Malpirg lived for!

>>41129874 >Such were the adventures of a young girl, seeking the joy that life could hold at every twist and turn. Her arrival at Levindale featured Janet's first encounter with what was possibly her greatest discovery yet.
>Lemons.
>Such a mysterious thing, hanging from the trees spread out across vast fields, some green and some bright yellow, each of them varying kinds of sour. Direct contact with the tongue seemed to cause the person doing so to tighten up their entire face, which was hilarious. Nonetheless, as funny as lemons were, people were still being hurt by not-so-friendly vagabonds, so it was about time she found this Sarah girl.
>Asking around led her to a small house, close to the outskirts of town. It appeared more like a small village house than one you might see in a town, with something of a thatched roof and crude stone-built walls. Though faint, amidst the sweet breeze brushing through the lemon trees rustling the leaves, the quiet sound of a young girl sobbing could be heard inside.

>>41129915 >Having happily spent her time enjoying the sightseeing the town had to offer, Janet found herself chatting away with the locals, finding out about local culture and generally enjoying the sight of all the citrus that hung on the trees. Still, she reminded herself she had a job to do and the small girl steeled herself from the task at hand.
>After having found the house of her potential employer, Janet overheard the sound of mournful sobbing coming from the residence. Approaching the cottage's window with all the curiosity of a starched-stiff kitten, Janet and Aerth found themselves peering through the house's window trying to get a look at what might be crying.

>>41130295 >The 'what' was quickly answered, because peering into the window revealed a small room containing various foodstuff shelves and other odds and ends such as some small amounts of medicine. The most prominent piece of furniture was the currently occupied bed, containing a young man of around 18 years of age covered in bandages, most prominently over one side of his head, covering his left eye, and his left arm, the rest covered by the sheet. This man was moving every so often, letting out a slight groan, but otherwise seemed to be resting.
>Next to him sat the source of the more audible cries. Placed on a small wooden chair not too far from the bed was a young dark-haired girl, slightly younger than Janet's age, a small hand placed on the man's chest as the other wiped the tears from her eyes. If Janet had made any noise getting to the window, it was clear she hadn't noticed, likely occupied with the focus of her current attention.

>>41130754 >Knocking on the window pane to attract the girl's attention, Janet smiled and motioned for her to open the window. If she ever did come around to do so, the small redhead would smile and ask in a pleasant voice.
Hey, what happened to your big bro?
Did her forget to take his orange juice this morning or what?

>>41131086 >Janet's knocking was answered with a confused and slightly shocked look. The girl wasn't exactly used to people watching her cry like that, especially through the window. She stood up anyway, wiping her tears as quickly as possible before opening the window, eyes still wet.
Wh.. what? No... no, he's...
>Part of her was dealing with emotional trauma and the other was attempting to comprehend just how weird the question was. Sadness turned slightly into frustration and her cheeks grew puffy as she grumbled in response.
He's my friend and he's hurt! Isn't that obvious!? Why're you hiding by the window, anyway, why're you staring at him!? Hasn't he had enough!?
>Clearly she was starting to get a little distraught, but it was mostly a response to all the thoughts she was trying to cope with at once. The girl wasn't that old to begin with, and trying to take care of him on her own was tough.

I don't know what he's had or if he's had enough of it but I'm here for a job.
>Janet said, pulling out the guild job warrant and showing it to the angry girl whose feelings had nicely turned away from the boy to center on her. Normally watching people cry and be upset was a huge bonus to her acting shenanigans but seeing as she was genuinly upset over her friend's unfortunate health condition, it might be best to edge away from the subject.

Wh-what...?
>This girl had the letter she sent and even if she was saying ridiculous things, the redhead's expression seemed so blankly serious that for some reason she didn't doubt they were here to help. Of course, even if that was the reason she showed up, the fact that the guild sent a girl who was barely older than her to handle some bandits set off warning flags, even at her age.
I'm Sally, that's me, but... how are you gonna fight the bandits!? They're really terrible, y'know? They burned down Littlewood and hung all the bodies and wrote red messages all over the walls...
>Sally couldn't help but compare the girl in front of her to herself. Having been through so much over the past few months, years even, she felt powerless against the flow of the world, of what fate had seemed to set for them.
Richard was the strongest guy I knew, and he protected me and... and... and now he's...
>She looked on the verge of bursting into tears again, barely holding herself back but still lost in confusion over just what was going to happen next.

>>41133500 >Yawning quite loudly at the girl's tears and the danger she promised awaited her, Janet waved a bored hand in front of her and cut her off mid-sentence.
Yea alright but could this Richard guy fart out explosions large enough to turn your average house into a smoldering crater?
Cos if not, then I should be aight.
>Shrugging off the potential insult she just threw at her potential love interest, Janet raised and eyebrow and asked.

>>41133509 >How could she do it? How could she behave and sound so simply and casually, knowing what she might face? Was this the difference between her and someone from a Mercenary guild? Was this the kind of thing that girl her age did, day to day? Wait-
...
>All of a sudden, she paused with a blank expression, both bewildered and shocked for many different reasons. After staring at Janet for a short time, Sally finally opened her mouth to ask;

>>41133546 >Wiping the moisture from her eyes, the girl suddenly gained a determined look in her eye, hopping away from the window and running into the other room. After a few moments, the smell of freshly baked cookies rushed through the window, with the girl bringing the hot tray through to the table in front of Janet. Bet ya didn't know she had Tech/Chemical at 1, did ya!?
>Wiping the sweat from her brow created from the heat of the oven, she looked up at Janet.
We don't have much to begin with... it took what I'd saved up to send the request to the guild, but... well... they're freshly made...
>She'd intended to sell them with the hope of being able to afford a little more medicine, but more importantly than that was her wish to be able to believe that this girl might be able to do something for them.
Janet Malpirg !MrCarnage2 1 Nov 2015 8:39:29 PM No.41133574>>41133576
>>41133557 >With a dismissive stare, Janet look down with contempt at the "payment" this girl offered. To pay someone off with cookies of all things was just such a provincial act that it almost brought tears to the suddenly quite snobby redhead, that is, until she smelled the faint aroma of chocolate wafting up from the freshly baked batch of goods. Taking the tray from the girl's hands, hot as it is, Janet opened up her backpack and dumped all of the chocolate chip infused contents into it. Chocolate was a banned item in the guild hall and the very scent of it was enough to drive her mad with greed.
>The dirty deed having been accomplished, Janet turned around, pointed her right hand at a nearby tree and made it seem as though she were shooting it with an imaginary pistol.
Sally!pR.BaFF/uk 1 Nov 2015 8:43:02 PM No.41133576>>41133588
>>41133574 >Much to the girl's delight, her payment seemed to be enough! Maybe now she could see if this girl's power was true or not, though she was taking an awful lot of cookies... all of them actually... hey, she shouldn't be taking that many!
Hey, don't just-
>BOOM
Wooooow...!!
>She really could do it! Maybe with this the bandits really might be gone forever!
"MY LEG!"
>The sight of the poor man who happened to be jogging close by wasn't a pleasant one, and though he'd survive, it was doubtful he'd be able to take up his hobby for a while.
Eeeeww, I don't think legs should bend that way...
