>>41116738 >She hadn't even thought of that, to be honest. She glanced out the window as Tai spoke, mulling over his words. As far as Boulder's group knew, she was either dead or rotting in a prison; definitely not traveling the countryside to avenge her family. It had to stay that way for their own safety.
>>41116838 >A split. Sacrifice group power for a speedy investigation. They had to move fast, before the other group moved too far, but the idea still made Leo frown. They would have to take even more care to not be recognized in Rayfield.
>>41117018 I cannot dispute the assignment of partners. >The beastkin folded her arms and leaned into the leather of the seat, a much more withdrawn posture than Logan's claiming of territory. All you have to do is follow my lead, and you should be fine. From the city gates, it would take no more than an afternoon to retrieve the journals and return to safety. Investigating the mines should not take much daylight, either. Shall we meet back up at the station at dawn, or do we intend to purchase accommodations, sleep, and take the dusk train back to Kingsmeet?

>>41116838 >>41117018 >Oh.
>Well that was wonderfully decided without his input.
>He couldn't fault the logic, though. He was very likely the only person able to read a ledger, and a young artificer from Empyrean traveling with his mercenary bodyguard was a rather solid alibi.
>And still, Logan had asked for his assistance. He at the least was not catastrophically bitter.
>>41117064 The cover of night is often referred to as a shroud, but even criminals must sleep, and there's no sight their tired eyes loathe more than the morning sun. We'll leave at dawn.
>And with that decided, the man promptly opens a book from his satchel, thumbs his way to a page and zones the others out.
Logan Faust!pR.BaFF/uk 18 Oct 2015 10:21:39 PM No.41117106>>41117580>>41120048>>41120488
>>41117018 Hey, c'mon, when did I ever give you reason to doubt my focus?
>There's a bit of an awkward pause between his statement and the realisation that he isn't going to be able to pull the wool over anyone's eyes, here.
... yeah, never mind. No real problem, from my end. Guy's smarter than I am.
>>41117064 >>41117084 >It seemed they'd be heading out as soon as they arrived, all the way through the night. It made some sense, it'd get everything done in one fell swoop and they could always sleep on the train back. Of course, all of that assumed they wouldn't run into any real problems along the way.
Let's see, right now it's... 10:23, we've only really just left so we'll be there by around 2:30, that'll leave around 6 hours of daylight, I think. Depending on when each team gets done, we can link back up and share info somewhere close to the station. I'm gonna hazard a guess that you two -
>He pointed to Elias and Leo
- will probably be done before we are, so just wait around for us to get back. If we're not back by... I dunno. Tai, you've done this sort of book-keeping stuff before, right? How long do you think it'll take to convince them and check through it all?

>The plan was well received, barring Logan's second attempt at attempting to look like somebody who could be trusted with literally anything.
Whatever it takes, the quicker we can get in and out with the information we need, the better. If it was just a group of thugs, we could finish this now, but a symbol suggests a larger group, and I don't think the four of us can charge in and take out the entire operation.

>>41117084 >>41117106 >>41117580 >Leo opened her mouth to speak and closed it soon after. Looked like it was decided. She leaned forward to look out the window at the midday sky.
I do not foresee us running into any complications. I know the city well enough to avoid any complications.
>Logan and Tai, however, were completely out of her control.

>>41117106 >At least the man acknowledged the differences between them. It was quite more than he could say for some people he'd met in his time, and while it didn't much change his opinion of the man's wisdom, it did impress upon him that Logan wasn't entirely idiotic. There might have been even an ounce of genuine respect for the prideless manner in which he'd said it.
>Glancing up from his book, and adjusting his spectacles, the artificer sighs.
Ten minutes, if we're only there for what we want. Two hours if we wish to maintain an illusion of legitimacy.
>He hadn't really hadn't done much in the way of the business side of things, sadly, but he knew how to pretend as if he had, which was arguably even more important here.
>>41117580 >Following up on this, the man sets his book aside, obviously not too happy with having his nice reading interrupted.
The symbol doesn't concern me. Even a small, local group of bandits can have a symbol. What concerns me is how brazen they've been about this, and how they've simply gotten away with it, by all counts. Has there even been an announced investigation?
Logan Faust!pR.BaFF/uk 21 Oct 2015 1:34:01 PM No.41120641>>41121934>>41123394
>>41120488 >Two hours, then. Logan nodded, continuing to chill out in the cabin. Assuming it took them two hours to find the right place once they arrived, if everything went to plan they'd be back at around 6pm, if a little later. Of course, something always went wrong.
>>41117580 >>41120048 >>41120488 >The question of the symbols and the like was a different matter, though, particularly as it was something both teams would have to keep an eye out for, or rather anything else about Boulder and the organisation behind this.
Well, technically the investigation's already done. I mean, we already know who's known publically as the criminal, here. >A lazy finger pointed over toward Leo. That was the investigation. As far as most people know, a bunch of bandits hijacked a train to take its goods and hurt the staff. Sure, the clues we have point to something else, but that's only because we took the time to give a damn, and because we did we've got more information than almost anyone else on this case.
Should someone else have taken an interest and made a move to look into it? Maybe, but the fact that no-one else has provides us with two outcomes. One, everyone else considers this an open and shut case now that the 'criminals' have been convicted or, Two, the people behind this have ways of shutting down that kind of stuff before it starts.
I don't like the sound of the latter all that much.

>Tai had a point. Anybody could make a symbol, it was the respect the symbol commanded that alerted you to how well established a group was. Nonetheless, it was a lead they could follow, should they desired. All symbols lead back to something. Really, an intelligent gang wouldn't have one at all.
Logan and a small team were the spearhead of the investigation. They were hired to go out and deal with the bandits and...well, they did. It would have been case closed if it hadn't been for the Guildmaster's curiousity. He wanted me to investigate, and that's why we're all here.
Now, we relax for the remainder of the journey. We've got a lot of legwork to do when we get there, so save your strength.
>With that, Elias fully relaxes his posture and turns his head out the window. He was tempted to buy himself a snack, but train food was never particularly pleasant...He'd wait until they got to Rayfield. At the very least, they'd probably have a cheap sandwich shop.
