"Duty over Mind" quoted Jerome from one of the many edicts his knighthood came with. Though the fact that he was grossly taking said sentence out of context and exploiting it to excuse many of his questionable decisions raised by the patriarchs of the order. Still, going through the small village's side streets, making sure nobody saw him as he passed through each intersection he crossed.
"I don't accept anything you do as anything at all so long as it doesn't force me to do anything about it. Fact is, I swore an oath to protect those who couldn't from the harms of this world but that sure as hell doesn't have to involve playing jailer for an assassin too dumb to pick up a hint when its handed to her."
Though he'd previously seemed uninteresting and rude to the girl, the fact was that he honestly didn't care about her one way or the other. Rather, the only reason he'd been so upset was because she had forced him into action by triggering one of his many vows and oaths rather than allowing him to ignore her as he'd much have preferred to do. Not only that, but this particular Cassiline argued his actions with a wit and skill that'd put any public debater to shame through the ease with which he managed to justify each and every one of his actions.
"Sure I'm hungry and could go for a snack but now that the town's after you, there's no way I could eat anywhere that the guard wouldn't find me and drag me away to try and catch you. Rather, I'll slip out the back before they knew I was there and see if I can't make it to the next town over before sundown."
