>>41191321 >>41191333 >Irya. She's head that name before oh yes sir, enough nobles have gabbed to her about their employ of the Basilisk Guild to take care of "certain" matters but subtly or otherwise. Not all of it technically legal either. And Patrick's mystery person had the exact name as their calculated leader. >Shock filled her face, was it really such a small world for him to know someone like that???
>Too much of a coincidence. That name too unique to be shared by someone else.
Was... was her last name Serphant? As in Irya Serphant?

>>41191405 What..? Uh, yeah. I think that was it. I just called her Irya.
>When you were about 10 or so and didn't know any better about the world, you tended not to give a damn about surnames. Or, well, he didn't anyway. Patrick mostly knew her as a local hero, though whether she was born there or happened to come along to live there for a while, he didn't know. Of the few things he was sure of, her being the inspiration for his own departure was one of them, alongside the knowledge of the legacy.
The better question is, why do you know that? Did she visit the north or something?
>>41191453 >HOLY SHIZ PATRICK KNEW A MOB BOSS. >And she thought she was the one with the connections!! >By the Flame! She was in deep now! What if she screwed up and Patrick called in a favour from that woman!? She'll gonna wake up at the bottom of a lake with concrete shoes on! Or there's going to be animal parts in her bed! Ew! Or or... they'll meet and Irya will force Melody to do mountains of drugs with her! >She can't do drugs! She's never done drugs before! Because Victoria said drugs were bad! >AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!
She's... the leader of the Basilisk Guild in Kingsmeet. Has been for a long time...
>There was old stories about her storming their HQ, taking out the current leader at the time, and being leader herself. Might be true, might be not. Regardless, if that's who Patrick wanted to go visit, Melody wasn't sure she was ready for it.

>>41191462 Really? Huh. Wow, she must be doing pretty well for herself.
>What kind of guild was that? Knowing the current state of the world, probably a Merc guild of some kind, and if Melody was talking like that about her and the guild in particular, they were probably a big deal. Well, if anyone could make it in a place like Kingsmeet, it'd be her!
I just remember her as the really nice big sis who'd come around to the village every so often with a lot of stuff to sell - her prices were always fair and she treated the lot of us orphans like family.
Guess it makes sense she'd be able to lead a guild. Maybe her reputation followed her? Apparently she was on the front lines of the Crystal War for a while. The Terminian army started calling her something, what was it... could've sworn I heard it once or twice.
OH! Right. They probably didn't catch her name right, so they started calling her the 'Iron Serpent'. Weird, right? I like mine better.
>Striking an over-dramatic pose, Patrick showed off his weakened but still fairly developed guns.
'The Ace of Flames!' Sounds way better than a metal snake, right?
>Clearly by how casually he was taking all of this, he didn't understand the gravity of what he was saying. Maybe it really was just that simple and clear to him, living a carefree life seemed to come easy.
>>41191643 >Well he's taking all this surprisingly well!! Usually when you tell someone that someone they hold in admiration is nothing short of a mob boss now, they'll be a little upset.
>But here he was gabbing about her being a sisterly type person and just being nice to him and others. She had a totally different image of her where she was busting the kneecaps of her rivals and plotting to take over the city she lived in.
Yeah... way better...
>Maybe it was all just lost on him. He was kinda stupid sometimes.
A-anyway, you seem excited to see her... so why don't we get going and go see if we can visit?
>She dreaded it honestly, but she couldn't very well walk around without him to be a bodyguard for her. Hopefully she won't get legitimately kidnapped and actually need to be rescued.

>>41192248 Sounds like a plan, assuming we don't run into some kind of horrendously problematic event which, in my case, happens a little too often...
Oh! But first, we gotta ditch the carriage.
>That probably seemed like a pretty ludicrous idea given how far Kingsmeet was from where they were. They'd barely made it out of Empyrean, hell the city was still visible in the distance and no doubt there'd already be people looking for them.
Send it off ahead of us as a decoy, and we'll take the nearby woodland route. It won't be as safe as the road, but it's better to face a couple of jackals than your sister.
Boy, I'd like to have seen the look on her face when she got the news! I can just imagine it.
>>41196375 >Melody nods at the idea of leaving the carriage. It would be a good idea to have them keep going in a less notable route. Would keep the guard and her sister off of them for a little while longer.
Yeah... she's not going to be pleased.
>Victoria wasn't someone that exactly tolerated failure. But now that her sister's gone because of it...
I hope that guard isn't being boiled in oil right now...
